I’m sure we’re all aware of the biological reasons why creatures are mammals. I feel that there are deeper distinctions at play, however. We seem to have an in-built and natural affinity with other mammals and, to a lesser extent; birds. The basic roots of empathy seem rooted deep in our biology.

The is a simple joy in our touch. Perhaps this goes to the days when we crouched in burrows whilst the dinosaurs roamed.

On a cold, dark night, it is the ultimate source of comfort to simply hold another; a cat, a child, a lover.

It makes the demons disappear.
